Featured Artists

Mick Jenkins

The festival will kick off on March 30th with Chicago’s finest rapper, Mike Jenkins – a lyricist par excellence, spitting truth over the smoothest, impeccably produced beats. When you listen to this cat, you can’t help but bop your head in deep contemplation and appreciation of his thought-provoking lyricism. In 2012, he released his first official mixtape, The Mickstape, which was followed by his second offering, The Pursuit of HappyNess: The Story of Mickalascage. 2013 saw the release of the epic Trees & Truths, a divine synthesis of acid jazz and biblical allegory. In 2014, Jenkins released his critically-acclaimed fifth mixtape The Water, which was considered by many as his breakout project. Following up to Water, he released his sixth mixtape, Waves, before gifting us with his much-anticipated debut album, The Healing Component. Jenkins has collaborated with artists such as Chance The Rapper, BADBADNOTGOOD & Kaytranada.

Low End Theory

The party continues March 31st with Low End Theory, which will be bringing the Los Angeles experimental hip hop and electronic music club night scene to Maboneng. Low End Theory was founded in 2006 by producer and Alpha Pup Records label head Daddy Kev. Having been described as the epicentre of L.A.’s instrumental hip hop scene, Low End Theory has become one of the most influential venues for the ‘beat music’ genre.

Making their way to South Africa will be long-time residents DJ Daddy Kev, (DJ) NOBODY, D-Styles & joining the crew will be Teebs from independent L.A. record label BRAINFEEDER, founded by Flying Lotus.

Tom Misch

Last, and certainly not least, the festival will end off on a very high note as Tom Misch takes you on a soulful and deeply melodic expedition. Born in South-East London, the 21-year-old singer-songwriter, producer, and DJ has gained international recognition as one of the most talented emerging artists in the music industry right now. He is stellar on the guitar and his voice is beguilingly smooth. Let’s not even talk about his beats, which have positioned him as one of the hottest producers in the world. He’s been featured on every major music publication from Rolling Stone to Complex.

Misch has been a musical prodigy from a very young age, starting his musical journey with the violin at 4 years old. When he was 11, he started developing his own compositions using a loop pedal. At 17-years- old, Misch started experimenting with a few beats that would culminate in his debut project Beat Tape 1. Following Beat Tape 1, Beat Tape 2 was one of the most celebrated albums of 2015. His latest offering, the Reverie E.P, has also been on the receiving end of much adulation.

The Alchemy Fest will be taking place from March 30th to April 1st at King Kong, Industry and the Good Luck Bar, respectively.
