From pastries to tagliata, this modern European-style café is attracting a growing following amongst the Parks food cognoscenti.

The glam set gathered this weekend to savour the authentic Italian cuisine on offer at Craighall Park’s hottest eatery, Dolci Café.BLQ_DolciCafe

TV personalities Jay Anstey and Jonathan Boynton-Lee, actor Craig Hawks, model Stevel Marc and an assortment of other familiar faces joined the city’s top foodies in sampling the scrumptious fare on offer at the stylish café.

Headed by husband and wife team Clayton Boyd and Jackie Righi-Boyd, Dolci is an Italian café, pastry shop and baking boutique dedicated to authentic foods, the highest available quality products and a mouthwatering selection of artisan cakes and cupcakes.

Jackie, who hails from SA food pedigree, trained in Italy as a pastry chef and started out creating cupcakes at home before moving into expanding her repertoire to a range of decadent pastries and desserts such as her legendary 1.5-metre-tall croquembouche, which is often sought after by patrons for special occasions such as birthdays and weddings.

But while Dolci still remains true to its mantra, “For the love of pastry’, the couple have expanded their culinary repertoire to reflect a European style café, fueling early risers with breakfast items including a full breakfast, their signature frittatas and anchovy toast served on ciabatta toast and slathered in their homemade anchovy paste.

Meanwhile, Dolci’s extensive lunchtime menu includes Spaghetti Con Zucchini, Tagliata Di Manzo (sliced fillet steak featuring a robust tomato flavor) and their Cotoletta (chicken schnitzel served with boiled baby potatoes in butter and parsley, sliced tomato and homemade cheese sauce) which is a culinary journey to the rolling hills of Italy in just one mouthful.

In keeping with their commitment to true Italian authenticity, wherever possible everything is made on site, with Clayton explaining, “This is Italian food, served the Italian way.”

“Best possible product, and simply presented – that is our premise, “adds Jackie. “After all, a good tomato is a good tomato. There is no need to lather it up with balsamic vinegar; I believe in leaving a product to speak for itself.”

Dolci Café is located at 101 Lancaster Avenue (corner Clarence Avenue) in Craighall Park.
