The Collaboration

One of Time magazine’s 100 Most Influential People, Marc Newson is one of Industrial Design’s luminaries. He’s designed one of just about everything, from knives and forks to aircraft and yachts. His work is in major museum collections; the MoMA in New York, London’s Design Museum and V&A, the Centre Georges Pompidou and the Vitra Design Museum. And, he’s Jonathan Ive’s buddy who designed the Apple Watch.

In case you didn’t know…

Marc Newson Signature

And for over a decade, he’s been exploring the way garments can be manipulated in collaboration with G-Star Raw. Applying industrial design techniques to leisure wear, he’s created unique ranges that feature hidden seams, one piece arms, and clean, structured silhouettes, as well as distinctive materials that reimagine familiar patterns like army camouflage as more basic, naive shapes and colours.

“I am a great believer in the cross-pollination of ideas, processes, materials, and technologies.” – Marc Newson

Spring/Summer ’15

For S/S ‘15, G-Star x Marc Newson embodies ‘cross-pollination’. After celebrating the collaboration’s 10-year anniversary last year, this season the collection’s characteristic Euro/Japanese streetwear take on American sportswear adds military and outdoor influences to the formula.
