Esports in South Africa has seen exponential growth in the past year and more brands are getting involved as they appreciate its potential to shake the nation. SA gaming lovers, time to get amped for an exciting tournament that has been brought to you by a great partnership between Samsung, ASUS and Mettlestate, a South African esports studio. The tournament is titled the Samsung Galaxy CS:GO Championship, it officially kicked-off on March 13 and will be running until May 7.

What is CS:GO?

Counter-strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO) is an exhilarating multiplayer first-person shooter video game. In this virtual world, two teams are pitted against each other; the two teams are the Terrorists and Counter-terrorists, and each team has different objectives in the game. The objective of the Terrorists is to plant a bomb near the Counter-terrorists turf or defend hostages, while the Counter-terrorists’ objective is to prevent the bomb from being planted or save the hostages.

The Samsung Galaxy CS:GO Championship has provided pro gamers an opportunity to showcase their skills and gaming tactics in this electrifying tournament.

Don’t Miss Out, the Grand Finally is Still to Come!

You cannot miss out on this here action! It’s not over yet. It started off with 24 teams battling it out for an incredible prize pool of R1 million – this biggest prize pool to date for a single esports title in Africa. The 24 teams compete in four groups of six teams and two teams per group are eliminated, leaving the top 16. The group phase matches are a best-of-one and are played online with eight matches a week.
