Our Dec/Jan 2013 cover star joins Sony Music Africa. AKA has signed a multi-album deal with Sony Music Africa, via its new local urban label; Sound African recordings. AKA’s brand new album ‘Levels’, a recent #1 iTunes album, was released to physical music retail on the first weekend of August, 2014. AKA, a multi-award winning artist, recently achieved further #1’s on the iTunes singles chart with ‘Congratulate’ & ‘Run Jozi’, both singles released from the newly available album ‘Levels’. He’s also consistently delivered No. 1 position as well as Top 5, Top10 and Top20 National Radio Airplay Chart hits.

AKA Levels

“We’re excited to add AKA’s illustrious career to our stable”, says Zakes Bantwini, Executive Head of A&R for Sound African recordings, “we are excited about AKA’s growth prospects in Africa and beyond”. His unique approach to producing hits sets him apart from the average Rap artist, this is  an artist with not only innovative creative sense but with the ambition for international stardom. With AKA we see an opportunity to take Mzansi Rap into the Mainstream domain, crossing over multiple music formats and cultural segments. The album certainly takes the game to another level as there is no shortage of club, dance and sing-along anthems, notably the no. 1 smash ‘Congratulate’ and ‘All Eyes On Me’ the single follow up to Run Jozi which features Nigeria’s rising star Burna Boy and Da LES, another exciting album song is Sunshine with J-Something of Mi Casa, again demonstrating AKA’s trajectory beyond just the rap scene and beyond the South African borders, Sony sees its value in supporting AKA’s growth into Pan-African markets via our local operations in East and West Africa.

“The union of Sound African Recordings, Vth Season, and AKA make perfect sense for our label’s goal of taking the most talented AKA to African Stardom and beyond.

Benza MD of The Vth Season Audio
