The purist Boxster Spyder shown

New York International Auto Show 2015 plays host to the world premiere of the most powerful Porsche Boxster ever.

It’s convertible season in the Northern Hemisphere of Earth and Porsche has just introduced the latest must have accessory at the New York International Auto Show that’s currently taking place. The Boxster Spyder is the top model of a range of junior 911s that have taken the world by storm, posting incredible record sales and accessibility to the exclusive brand.

Its distinctive design of a dramatic rear that’s characterized by a pair of prominent bulges (a nod to the 718 Spyder of the 60s), a fixed rear wing and a much more flamboyant, and front and rear end design borrowed from the Cayman GT4 plus a hand-operated cloth roof is what sets it apart from the regular car that won South Africa’s prestigious COTY (Car Of The Year) title two years ago.

As a truer reflection of Porsche sports roadsters from years gone by the new Spyder occupies a unique position and appeals to a completely different buyer profile. These individuals will want a purer experience and the Spyder’s firmer suspension that is lowered by 20mm, brakes from a 911 Carrera, enhanced steering directness, and 276kW from a 3.8-litre six-cylinder engine instead of a 3.6-litre that’s found in Boxster S will deliver the goods.

It’s about fusing pavement poser looks and general Porsche goodness with genuine performance credentials and the numbers (0-100 in 4.5 secs and a top whack of 290km/h) are evidence that this is Moby Dick of Porsche Boxsters. Order books for South Africa are already open and the base price is ZAR 1,010,000
