Picturesquely situated along the Garden Route, and an easy four-hour drive from Cape Town, Gondwana Game Reserve is a real return to nature, with its safari lodges built to make the most of the cinematic setting. Surrounded by the Swartberg and Outeniqua mountain ranges, the reserve’s name comes from the ancient land mass Gondwanaland, from which Africa was formed 120 million years ago. This ancient and unspoiled terrain is one of the reserve’s most special assets and one that is celebrated by its new standalone spa.

With the spa originally part of the main Kwena Lodge, Gondwana was prompted by a demand to build a larger, separate venue to add to the safari experience. Now with two treatment rooms, large enough to accommodate couples, and in a new private location in amongst the trees adjacent to the lodge and looking out onto the fynbos-covered hills, it’s the ideal way to extend the serene experience of being in this tranquil paradise.

Operating under the mantra ‘Revitalise yourself with nature’s touch, tone and tempo’, the spa is inspired by nature not only in its BLQ_Spasetting but its ingredients too. Using Africology products, whose use of indigenous plants such as marula, rooibos and aloe vera enhance the earthy African experience, the two dedicated therapists offer a full range of nature-inspired body, face and hand and foot treatments. You can indulge in anything from the aptly named Happy Hippo mud wrap and Sundowner anti-ageing facial, to a marula-shell scrub or a hot-river-stone massage.

The new spa is a tented structure with a folding glass door front, for the real safari feel with a view.  Guests can wait in the outdoor pergola or sit inside and enjoy the African chic bush-themed decor and keep cool under slow-turning fans. Treatments are done in this blissful new space unless otherwise requested – guests can request in-room service for additional privacy and ease.

Scheduled to open before the end of the year, guests to Gondwana can now look forward to enjoying an added level of relaxation when visiting this special place in nature.
