Masters of here-today-gone-tomorrow entertainment, The Union Bar, recently launched their latest pop-up bar in Illovo, Johannesburg with blended Scotch whisky brand, Black Bottle. Their basement showcase, festooned in black and gold, will be running for 13 weeks, until 11 June 2016. Mood Black walls met with sequences of gold decor line the venue, with ample space to dance, socialize and enjoy an array of weekly entertainment on offer. The makeshift cobblestone floor (which is really a bricked pavement) does, however, feel uneasy when you’re well into the night and slightly inebriated on good spirits and good drink. So apply caution when walking in, around, and out of the venue. People With the tone of the venue well established, you’ll be met by Joburg’s young working class and on the odd occasion rub shoulders with local A-list celebrities the likes of Jen Su, Moonchild Sanelly and Chiano Sky. Catching up with your mates for after work sundowners or meeting new and interesting faces is both welcomed and encouraged. Drinks The Union has created a series of events set to stroke the souls of modern day style and artisan-cocktail lovers alike. Cocktails are created with the foundation of, ‘molecular mixology’, making use of molecular gastronomic techniques to create the most delicious elixirs. Expect specialty cocktails served in unconventional vessels, designer creations like the red velvet martinis with cream cheese foam or spiced wasabi and horseradish bloody Marys with celery salt air. Set to showcase South Africa’s finest musical talent, as well as offer special events such as comedy and disco nights, cabaret and tattoo evenings, fashion shows and whisky pairings, The Union Bar with Black Bottle blended Scotch whisky will offer something new nearly every week. The Union Bar with Black Bottle blended Scotch whisky will be open to the public on Thursday to Saturday nights, 18:30 to late, from March 11 to June 11. The venue is the newly converted Norman Goodfellows Dispatch Warehouse, on the corner of Chaplin and Oxford roads, in Illovo, Johannesburg.
