Clay Adventures With Andile Dyalvane

“Clay breathes, it’s alive with becoming and moves with my energy, listens and holds only what I’ve impressed upon it – it remembers and lets go in the fire, then it becomes stronger. If clay was a song it would sing of the layers of life.” – Andile Dyalvane, Creative Director of Imiso Ceramics.

No words will ever be enough to describe the majestic artistry behind Andile Dyalvane’s work. He is a multi-award-winning and internationally acclaimed designer who takes pride in his role as an authentically African storyteller, using the medium of ceramics to capture the African expression of self and community. Through his Clay Adventures with Andile Dyalvane masterclass series, he invites you to step into the fascinating world of clay and ceramics.

With over 19 years’ experience, Andile has made a name for himself as South Africa’s foremost ceramist with a global reach. He has travelled internationally, sharing his gift with the world and flying the SA flag high. His list of accolades includes the Southern Guild Design Foundation Designer of the Year Award, Visi Designer of the Year, and the Decorex Gold Award. His works have been exhibited extensively in South Africa, the United States, Europe, Asia, and, most recently, Australia.

Andile’s work is inspired, first and foremost, by African artefacts, traditions, and stories. The detailing on Andile’s artwork is inspired by various African patterns, textiles, music, and rituals. One of his collections, based on the Xhosa practice of ukuqatshulwa (body scarification), is based on his personal experiences.

Get a first-hand experience of what it takes to be a world-class ceramist. This isn’t a run-of-the-mill ceramics class; it far exceeds your Saturday morning pottery class. Clay Adventures with Andile Dyalvane promises to be a creative and memorable journey. The masterclass is aimed at helping you unleash your inner creative. More than this, it will expose you to the latest global ceramics trends. “We hope to attract an audience that varies across the spectrum of the creative industry, from professionals, art and design faculty heads, lecturers, students, creative workshop facilitators, entrepreneurs and those who want an introduction to the medium of clay, and have the desire to learn,” says Andile.

Do not miss out on this opportunity to bask in an atmosphere of creativity and art. Clay Adventures with Andile Dyalvane will be taking place in Johannesburg on the 15th of August at the Victoria Yards in Bez Valley. Click here to purchase your tickets.
