LOUIS XIII and Nobu have partnered to create a bespoke dining experience – masterfully blending the unique tasting profiles of LOUIS XIII cognac with the delectable flavours Nobu is renowned for the world over.

Special guests were treated to the first LOUIS XIII & Nobu five-course paired, gourmand experience on Thursday evening, led by LOUIS XIII Private Client Director Jörg Pfützner and Nobu Chef de Cuisine, Hervé Curtot. “LOUIS XIII and Nobu share a commitment to excellence and a unique understanding of flavour that make them the perfect partners in a celebration to understated aromas,” shares Pfützner.

“At Nobu we work to bring out the inherent aromas of each ingredient, blending them together to create new taste experiences. The delicate balance we achieve works wonderfully with LOUIS XIII,” says Courtot.

In order to fully reveal the many facets of LOUIS XIII Pfützner and Courtot have devised five exceptional pairings that showcase the different sensations evoked by LOUIS XIII.

Each unique paring brings the exceptional qualities of LOUIS XIII to the fore in its own special way, magnifying and illustrating the most sumptuous matches between the King of Cognacs and exquisite fare.

Echoing the key elements of LOUIS XIII the first course; a delectable scallop with foie gras, vanilla miso and a balsamic reduction works in perfect harmony with the spirit. The second course of delicate langoustine with caviar, gomma dressing and crispy shitake works in contrast with LOUIS XIII.

LOUIS XIII’s decadence is embodied by New York-style black cod, yuzu miso with kataifi. The fourth course, the Epitome, is rounded off by a Chilean sea bass with dashi Ponzu before finishing the evening with the Elevation course of slow-cooked Wagyu with truffle rice. “The LOUIS XIII Gourmand Experience at Nobu is about one plus one equalling three, as the aromas and complexity of the spirit and the food combine into a bigger sensory experience,” believes Pfützner.  Order a glass of LOUIS XIII (R4,500) and enjoy a complimentary canapé experience, each pairing designed to highlight a different character of this luxurious cognac. The Gourmet Dinner experience includes an elaborate six course menu (think Japanese scallops, French caviar, Wagyu beef and Nobu’s signature Alaskan Black Cod) paired to a glass of LOUIS XIII at R5 950 per person. The Gourmand Experience (for 6 to 8 people), is South Africa’s most luxurious dining experience, is served with a personalised decanter of LOUIS XIII and is valued at R120 000.
