With 3 news cars already out, AMG GT included, Mercedes-Benz

Understandably as a South African, when talk turns to a mid-range Mercedes-Benz SUV you will not easily indentify with the topic. This is due to the fact that in the last decade local tastes for SUVs have been about the entry-level or the top, most expensive of the species. So Mercedes-Benz held off on availing its GLK-Class; a medium size SUV, which came below the ML-Class.
But if our grown and wide purchase trends are to be believed we will finally have this new Mercedes-Benz as an option too. This is the new GLC and it will be vying for the attention of people who would like an alternative to the Porsche Macan, Audi Q5, and BMW X3.

Design wise it has heavy hints of the new assemblage of the brand, that friendly mug seen on C-Class and with its height it looks very much like a GLA on steroids. But it’s more than a coincidence that they appear similar. Both cars belong to the GL family tree that begins…err… with the GLA and is captained by the GLE, formerly known as the ML-Class.
The company has invested a lot in ensuring that it becomes a segment beater in both aesthetic appeal and specification levels. On the toy count expect features such as ABC (Air Body Control) that is an air suspension claimed to be without equal and which works in conjunction with Agility Control-Merc’s new wunder system of enhancing on-road driving dynamics; 4MATIC permanent all-wheel drive and much more in the convenience and safety systems.

Four models will be available at the market launch of the GLC, all featuring 4MATIC permanent all-wheel drive as standard and these are the
GLC 220 d 4MATIC (125 kW): GLC 250 d (150 kW); GLC 250 (155 kW) and the GLC 300 (180 kW)

It will also be as customisable as the current fleet with options of unique paints, various shades of interior trim, AMG trim or Exclusive while an Off-Road Engineering Pack is also available. In case you wree wondering, the GLC can also be licked with the Edition 1 paint scheme. The GLC is expected to go on sale in the third quarter of 2015. Prices haven’t been finalised as yet.
