With an honours degree in motion picture and live performance, Trevor Stuurman has created a name for himself in the fashion industry both in front of and behind the lens. In 2012, he scooped the Elle Style Reporter title for his depiction of South African street style and hasn’t stopped impressing since. He has shown his work all over the world, shot street style for Pitti Uomo, co-directed a documentary called Ubuhle Besintu, been the Autumn Winter face of Woolworths, featured in House and Leisure’s Rising Star, listed among the Mail & Guardian Top 200 Young South Africans, named GQ Best Dressed Man, featured as SA Style Awards Next Big Thing and nominated Influencer of the Year by Student Village. An impressive list of accomplishments for a great young talent. Trevor has a unique philosophy when it comes to his work. “Africa has always been the home of luxury. Everything made in Africa takes time and is made with so much love. It’s always about sharing, bonding and passing down traditional knowledge and gems from our history. Every person I’ve shot has shared a piece of themselves with me and for that I’m very grateful.” Trevor shares his top ten images with us and has this to say, “From the beading to the weaving processes, these images are a celebration of contemporary African luxury”.
