Since 1724, Rémy Martin has turned the finest grapes into harmonious, complex and opulent cognacs. All the Rémy Martin cognacs come exclusively from the two most prestigious crus, Petite and Grande Champagne. These regions deliver the most complex and opulent eaux-de-vie to produce Fine Champagne cognacs. 

The Rémy Martin story is one that is over 300 years old. Rémy Martin is the only major Cognac House to be created by a French winegrower and is a House which has been owned and managed by only two families since its creation in 1724. The family has been in Grande Champagne since the late 1500s (9 generations).

All Rémy Martin creations have an unparalleled signature style: harmonious, rich, and long on the palate, which reveals a unique aromatic intensity. The amazing complexity of Rémy Martin’s VSOP, XO and 1738 each have different signature flavours: floral, fruity, oaky and spicy notes representing the aromatic spectrum of the Fine Champagne Cognacs.

Rémy Martin VSOP:

  • Nose: Dominant notes of vanilla thanks to longer ageing in French Limousin oak barrels, followed by ripe apricot, baked apple and an elegant floral note.
  • Palate: A perfect harmony between the firm character of ripe fruit and subtle notes of liquorice, offering a great complexity of elegant and powerful aromas.
  • Body: Well-balanced, structured and multi-layered, it combines the roundness of ripe fruit with silk like texture.
  • Food pairing: Mini apples and dried apricots.

Rémy Martin 1738:

  • Nose: Generous notes of plum and fig marmalade rounded off by intense oaky notes of toffee and toasted bread.
  • Palate: The mellowness of butterscotch and baked spices with hints of dark chocolate.
  • Body: Exceptionally round with a creamy aftertaste and a concentration of nutty aromas imparted by a careful blend of eaux-de-vie aged in toasted French oak casks.
  • Food pairing: Fresh figs and chocolate truffles.

Rémy Martin XO:

  • Nose: Wide spectrum of aromas of late-summer fruit, combined with rich floral notes of white flowers such as Jasmine.
  • Palate: The perfect expression of Fine Champagne opulence on the palate with mature flavours of juicy plums and candied oranges, with a hint of hazelnut and cinnamon.
  • Body: Velvety, rich and lingering.
  • Food pairing: Parmesan or Manchego cheese (Umami); chocolate macaroon (melting sensation).


Thierry Arnold, the international ambassador for the House of Rémy Martin, visited South Africa during October 2017. During his visit, he hosted two International Brand Ambassador Tour dinners at two of South Africa’s tops restaurants.

The chefs at these restaurants created bespoke menus and dishes, which paired with each of the three Rémy Martin variants, each of which complemented the unique tastes and flavours of the premium cognac.



Rémy Martin was honored to have partnered with David Higgs, one of South Africa’s most admired faces in the culinary industry for the Joburg leg of the Brand Ambassador Tour.  Marble is a celebration of quintessential South African fare and cooking on fire, and embodies South Africans’ love of cooking with fire.

Rémy Martin guests enjoyed bespoke menu developed by David to enhances the flavours of each Rémy Martin variant.

The dinners were hosted during the same month that the premium cognac brand, launched its latest advertising campaign. The campaign, entitled “One Life. Live Them.” has entered its third year, continuing the call for individuals to explore a life that is rich with experience.

“The call “One Life. Live Them.” encourages people to live their lives to the fullest,” explains Phil Voget, Rémy Martin Marketing Manager. “We want to inspire people to explore their many talents and diverse interests, instead of simply being defined by just one thing that they do. Over the past two years of the campaign, we have featured local individuals who have inspired us by living extraordinary lives. This year, we continue with this, and feature two gentlemen who are truly more than just the name on their business cards, who truly embody the concept of being defined not just by one thing, but by many”.

The 2017 campaign features two local faces – Sivu Madikana and Madoda Khuzwayo – who were picked by the brand because of the range of experiences they have, and the accomplishments they have achieved. The campaign features each individual, describing them by their “slashes” – the passion that drive them and which make them unique.
