Cape Town’s prestigious world B-Boy competition Red Bull BC One reaches its peak locally on the 30th of April 2016 at the Cape Town Stadium. The final showdown will showcase 16 brilliant breakers that were discovered through a nationwide search and that will compete to represent South Africa and against other countries at the world final in Japan in November. Every year, the competition searches for home-grown breaking talent and gives them a chance to perform on big stages. With past participants like B-boys Benny and ‘The Curse’ (real name: Brandon Petersen) battling it out in Middle East Africa Finals in past years, this ground-breaking competition is renowned on local turf. “All the dancers have put in a lot of hard work in preparation for the finals,” said Defending South African champion and B-Boy, The Curse. “It’s exciting to see how they will adapt to a different energy backed up by a cheering crowd while fighting for such a revered title,”. Come 30 April, each B-Boy will need to showcase their signature moves, musicality and power to impress the panel of judges consisting of Ronnie (international Red Bull BC One All-Star), Benny (Red Bull BC One 2014 Middle East Africa champ) and Vouks, local household name on the B-Boy scene. Having last been on South African soil when he won Red Bull BC One World Finals in Soweto, Ronnie is excited to back. “It’s been over 9 years and it feels good to be returning. I’m sure the talent has gotten even better and it’s going to be interesting to see the new generation go head-to-head with the old school cats,” Ronnie commented. Once the SA Red Bull BC One champ is crowned, they will make their way to Nagoya, Japan where they will contend in last chance cyphers in hopes of representing South Africa in the ultimate world final 2016 stage.
