Introduction

In the John Cameron Mitchell adaptation of the film, Rabbit Hole, a couple played by Nicole Kidman and Aaron Eckhart have been overcoming a tragedy and have subsequently not been engaging in coitus. The husband, in an effort to nudge things towards some action decides to orchestrate a seduction. The candles are lit; his hands traverse the spine and the shoulders in a firm but gentle massage. She moans in muted pleasure. He tells her to relax and for a moment she does. But just as he thinks that he is having his way, she recoils:

“I know what this is; dimming the lights. You’re trying to seduce me. Plying me with liquor” she slurs, having sussed him out. The scene becomes tense. She continues:

“You’re trying to rope me into sex.”

“I wasn’t roping you into sex,” he defends himself.

“Al Green isn’t roping? Al Green?!” she spits.

The husband in this scene fails, but some have been successful in using music as a seduction tool. With that in mind, here are twenty songs that might do the job, should Al Green fail.

#1 – Barry White –Practice What You Preach’

On some level, this song is not only a seduction, but a taunt. “So/What you wanna do?/I’m here, baby…/I’m waitin’ on you” are the opening lines. He flaunts his past conquests (“I’ve had my share of lovers/Some say I’m damn good”). She ripostes, teasing back (“Cause once I’ve been with you/You’ll never go back”). He’s ready and willing, and so is she, they’ve been circling each other with come-ons, waiting for one to make the first move. It’s a beautiful chess game.
