Trevor Noah is 2015 South African of the Year

Comedian Trevor Noah is the first recipient of the South African of the Year accolade. The award was devised by Jan Braai (Jan Scannell), the man behind the National Braai Day initiative. “The South African of the Year is someone who with a single phenomenal achievement made you extremely proud of being South African.” Noah’s phenomenal achievement is obviously being appointed as the host of Comedy Central’s  The Daily Show.

The South African of the Year was chosen by public vote on Twitter, where voting ran until midnight on 23 September. AB de Villiers, Wayde van Niekerk and Team MTN-Qhubeka were also in the running for the parts they played in building national pride this year. “These sensational achievements embody the spirit of the greatest nation on earth,” says Braai.
