DJ ENVY and AKA take the stage at Heineken Cities event

New York city and Johannesburg came together in world class style on Saturday 6 December, as Heineken® hosted their final #OpenJozi event at The Sands in Sandton.  

The event was held off the back of Heineken® having produced a range of limited-edition City bottles, each featuring one of 6 Global cities: New York, Shanghai, Rio de Janeiro, London, Amsterdam and Johannesburg.

This summer, Heineken® aims to inspire South Africans to live worldly adventures by unlocking the secrets of their cities as part of their ‘Open Your City’ campaign. To celebrate the campaign, the global brand hosted three epic music events in Jozi, bringing the best of Rio, New York and Shanghai to life and recognising Johannesburg as one of the greatest cities in the world.

The final #OpenJozi event, held this past weekend, saw renowned international underground hip hop artist DJ ENVY from New York turn up the heat with local SA Hip Hop prince and award winning emcee AKA.

 With songs such as “Run Jozi” and “Do It” (which achieved #1 status on 5FM’s Top 40) already on the lips and minds of the urban massive and an EP filled to the brim with quality material, AKA continues to push boundaries.

This past weekend was no exception as the two world class artists each took to the stage. DJ ENVY and AKA entertained the Mzanzi crowd with spectacular performances. “An awesome way to bring a bit of New York to Jozi, and Jozi to the world,” says DJ ENVY.
