More potency ordered for SA Golf GTI
Local Golf GTI enthusiasts to get an even hotter version!

Although VWSA hasn’t officially released a statement it would seem that one of the Country’s favourite premium hot hatches is destined for an optional power hike package. The VW Golf GTI, a constant on our roads and one which its makers inform us sells in record numbers, and makes up to 50% of all Golf sales in the country while 10% of it being the uber fast Golf R. This means the lion’s share of all Golf sold aren’t the average Avis kind. Well it seems now the local maker will diversify the range even more when it offers buyers an optional Performance Pack during 2015.

The PP car will feature a mechanical Limited Slip Diff instead of the electronic XDS which acts more as stability enhancer while the LSD is the truer choice for enthusiasts, which doesn’t cut power at the limit of adhesion unlike XDS.

A similar to Audi Adaptive Mode will appear where drivers can adjust the severity of the dampers. Expect bigger brakes too as required by the 7kW hike in power from 162kW to 169kW. However torque remains at 350Nm.

From a visual differentiation expect very little war paint and early reports suggest it will be down to red brake calipers only, and perhaps a wider grin on the driver’s face. However it’s still early days and perhaps VWSA may commission a special set of alloy wheels as per Euro standards.

We gather that for the expected ask of R20 000 above the asking price any specification GTI it sounds a very good value for money package. Unfortunately for current owners the PP can’t be applied after-market and will have to be pre-ordered with a new car from Wolfsburg with the extra oomph!
