The University of Johannesburg (UJ) will host the globally celebrated one-day annual World Information Architecture Day (WIAD) at the Faculty of Art, Design and Architecture (FADA) main auditorium, on the Bunting Road campus on Saturday, 20 February 2016. The celebration brings together a diverse community including information architects, user experience designers, content strategists, product managers, developers, scholars, and students. We come together to talk about and shape the future of Information Architecture. Because of the ubiquitous nature of information, we hear stories of information architecture not just practiced by specialists, but by people holding all sorts of titles, coming from all walks of life. World Information Architecture Day celebrate these type of stories. Themed ‘Information Everywhere, Architects Everywhere’, the event hosting local and international speakers will focus on the practice and education of Information Architecture (IA) and User Experience (UX) design to an estimated 250 members of Johannesburg’s digital design community. This year’s internationally acclaimed guest speaker is Dr Flávia Lacerda, who is both an academic and a professional within the Information Architecture industry. Dr Lacerda is the director of the Capacity Building Institute of the Brazilian Court of Audit, which is a corporate university focused on training and knowledge management. One of the main focus areas of the university is the Centre for Research and Innovation who do collaborative projects with other universities. The institute’s primary goal is to apply Design Thinking methodologies to solve complex problems in government. Alongside other speakers include: The Trinity Session’s Stephen Hobbs and Marcus Neustetter, who will be presenting on the topic of the user experience of public art in Johannesburg; Nicholas Hobson from innovation and design consultancy Fjord; Sebabatso Mtimkulu from the Standard Bank Group; Greenside Design Centre’s Ray Whitcher and Lindi Maritz; Rob Enslin, lead consultant experience designer at ThoughtWorks; and Rob Cowie, Discovery Health’s Head of User Experience, Design & Standards.
